Latvian journalists come under Russian drone attack in Ukraine
A team from Latvia's public broadcaster LSM – journalist Odita Krenberga and cameraman Aigars Kovalevskis – came under a Russian drone attack while working in a combat zone in Ukraine near the front line.
LSM told this to Delfi, Ukrinform reports.
The incident occurred while the journalists were carrying out their professional duties and traveling with Ukrainian soldiers to the positions of a unit.
During the attack, the drone exploded next to a car, damaging the back of the car with shrapnel and breaking a window. Thanks to the driver's quick reaction, none of the LSM team members or the soldiers were injured.
"The LSM team is aware of the risks it takes when going to the defenders of Ukraine and recording the everyday life of the war, because it is precisely such a presence that allows us to document the true face of war, no matter how dangerous and harsh it may be. We highly appreciate the work and courage of our journalists, because independent journalism in this situation serves as an important counterforce to false and misleading messages, giving the public the opportunity to base their understanding on facts, not manipulation," said LSM Editor-in-Chief Anita Brauna.
