Russian forces shell railway infrastructure in Sumy region, one person injured
On the night of February 4-5, Russian strikes damaged Ukrzaliznytsia facilities in the Sumy region.
Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"The Russian army carried out a massive overnight drone attack on the railway infrastructure of the Sumy region. In the Shostka district, a railway worker – a station duty officer – came under fire while on her way to work. Medical assistance was provided promptly," the statement said.
In addition, a "Resilience Railcar" set up in the community to provide heating for residents was also hit. People were in shelter at the time. Railway buildings and a locomotive were also damaged. Despite the attack, as soon as the security situation allowed, railway workers restored train services.
The railway's energy infrastructure in the area was also targeted by direct strikes.
The enemy also hit a railway station in the Okhtyrka district with drones. Technical facilities and tracks were damaged. All damage is being promptly repaired.
Kuleba stressed that the Russian army is deliberately targeting Ukraine's logistics. Despite this, Ukraine's railways are strengthening security protocols and continuing operations.
