French President Emmanuel Macron reported that on Thursday the French Navy detained an oil tanker traveling from Russia that is subject to international sanctions.

According to Ukrinform, he stated this on the social network X.

"This morning, the French Navy boarded an oil tanker coming from Russia, subject to international sanctions and suspected of flying a false flag," Macron said.

"The vessel has been diverted. We are determined to uphold international law and to ensure the effective enforcement of sanctions. The activities of the 'shadow fleet' contribute to financing the war of aggression against Ukraine," he added.

As previously reported, new Greek tankers have joined Russia's shadow fleet for the first time.
