War update: 142 combat engagements on front lines today
As many as 142 combat engagements have been recorded between the Ukrainian Defense Forces and Russian invaders since the beginning of the day.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported this in its update as of 22:00 on January 8, Ukrinform reports.
Today, Russian forces launched one missile strike and 15 airstrikes, used two missiles, and dropped 58 guided aerial bombs. In addition, the enemy used 2,982 kamikaze drones and carried out 3,055 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.
In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk sectors, Ukrainian forces repelled three enemy assault attempts. The enemy carried out 90 attacks on Ukrainian positions and populated areas, including two using multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna sector, the enemy six times assaulted Ukrainian positions near Buhruvatka, Vilcha and Fyholivka.
In the Kupiansk sector, the aggressor attempted four times to break through Ukrainian defenses toward Kupiansk, Petropavlivka and Nova Kruhliakivka, with one engagement still ongoing.
In the Lyman sector, Russian troops carried out eight attacks toward the settlements of Drobysheve, Lyman, Stavky and in the area of Novoselivka. Two engagements are still ongoing.
In the Sloviansk sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled four enemy assault actions, as Russian troops tried to advance near Siversk, Dronivka and Fedorivka.
In the Kramatorsk sector, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions.
In the Kostiantynivka sector, Russian forces launched 16 assaults on Ukrainian positions near Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Ivanopillia, Rusyn Yar, Sofiivka and toward Stepanivka.
In the Pokrovsk sector, the enemy launched 27 attacks against Ukrainian positions since the start of the day, attempting to break through near Nykanorivka, Chervonyi Lyman, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filiia and Dachne. In some locations, fighting is still ongoing.
According to preliminary data, 81 Russian soldiers were neutralized in this sector today, 55 of them killed. Ukrainian defenders also destroyed four vehicles, one quad bike, 14 UAVs, four units of special equipment, and struck eight enemy personnel shelters.
In the Oleksandrivka sector, the enemy attempted 13 times to break Ukrainian defenses near Verbove, Vyshneve, Zlahoda, Rybne, Yehorivka, Sichneve and toward Ivanivka and Oleksandrohrad. Four engagements are currently ongoing.
In the Huliaipole sector, 16 combat engagements were recorded as the enemy tried to advance near Solodke, Huliaipole and in the area of Varvarivka. Two engagements are still ongoing. Russian airstrikes hit Yuliivka, Rizdvianka, Hirke, Verkhnia Tersa, Liubytske and Zaliznychne.
In the Orikhiv sector, one engagement continues near Mali Shcherbaky.
In the Dnipro River sector, the enemy unsuccessfully attempted three times to break through Ukrainian defenses near the Antonivskyi Bridge.
In other sectors, the situation remains largely unchanged.
