War update: 140 clashes on front line since morning; Defense Forces repel 44 attacks in Pokrovsk sector
Since the beginning of the day, 140 combat engagements have taken place between the Defense Forces of Ukraine and Russian troops. Fighting is currently ongoing in eight sectors of the front, with the heaviest pressure on the Pokrovsk sector.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook, releasing operational information as of 16:00 on Wednesday, January 7, Ukrinform reports.
Russian artillery once again shelled border areas today, in particular Kliusy, Khrinivka, and Arkhipivka in Chernihiv region, as well as Ulanove, Studenok, Bezsalivka, and Ryzhivka in Sumy region.
In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk sectors, Ukrainian defenders repelled three enemy assault actions. In these areas, the Russian army shelled defensive positions and populated areas 39 times, including twice with multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna sector, the Defense Forces repelled six Russian attacks, with four more engagements ongoing. The invaders are trying to advance in the areas of Vovchanski Khutory, Vovchansk, Starytsia, Zelenе, and Tykhe, toward Vilcha and Ternova.
In the Kupiansk sector, Russian troops attempted eight times to advance on Ukrainian positions in the areas of Stepova Novoselivka, Pishchane, and Borivska Andriivka, toward Nova Kruhliakivka and Kupiansk. Two engagements are ongoing.
In the Lyman sector, the Russian army attacked defenders' positions 12 times near Novoyehorivka, Novovodiane, Derylove, Kolodiazi, Zarichne, Myrne, and Shandryholove. Three engagements are ongoing.
In the Sloviansk sector, the enemy has not conducted offensive actions today.
In the Kramatorsk sector, Russian forces made nine attempts to break through the defense in the areas of Vasiukivka, Minkivka, and Chasiv Yar, toward Bondarne. Fighting is ongoing.
In the Kostiantynivka sector, the invaders carried out 14 assault actions in the areas of Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Kleban-Byk, Yablunivka, and Rusyn Yar, toward Sofiivka. Two engagements are ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk sector, Russian troops made 52 attempts to push defenders from their positions in the areas of Shakhove, Nykanorivka, Fedorivka, Dorozhnie, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Udachne, and Molodetske, toward Novopavlivka and Filiia. The Defense Forces are holding the line: 44 enemy attacks have already been repelled, with six engagements still ongoing.
In the Oleksandrivka sector, Russian forces are trying to break through the defense in the areas of Zelenyi Hai, Oleksandrohrad, Sichenne, Stepove, Vyshneve, Verbove, Krasnohirske, Rybne, and Yehorivka. Defenders have already repelled 19 assaults; five engagements are ongoing.
In the Huliaipole sector, 24 combat engagements took place in the areas of Dobropillia, Solodke, Varvarivka, Zelene, Huliaipole, and Bilohiria. Five engagements are currently ongoing.
In the Orikhiv sector, the Russian army attacked three times toward Stepnohirsk.
In the Prydniprovske sector, the invaders twice unsuccessfully attempted to approach Ukrainian positions near the Antonivskyi Bridge.
No significant changes were recorded in other sectors of the front.
