CIJ: Serhiy Bohan, head of occupation police in Kalanchak, killed in Khorly, Kherson region

Serhiy Bohan, head of the illegal occupation police in Kalanchak, was killed in Kherson region in Khorly.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Center for Investigative Journalism.

“Russian occupiers have announced the death of 55-year-old Sergei Bohan, head of the illegal police in Kalanchak, Skadovsk district, Kherson region,” the report said.

As noted, Russian occupiers announced his death during an attack on the Ukrainian Hata cafe and Leo hotel in the resort village of Khorly in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson region. The attack took place during the broadcast of Russian leader Putin's New Year's address on the night of January 1, 2026.

According to the  Center for Investigative Journalism, Bohan is a long-time traitor. Serhiy Bohan, a native of Yalta, worked for many years in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, heading one of the criminal investigation departments. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014, he began working for the occupiers as a police officer. With the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, Serhiy Bohan worked in the occupation police in Henichesk, Kherson region. No later than the fall of 2024, Bohan headed the occupation police department “Kalanchakskoe” in the village of Kalanchak, Skadovsk district. On March 27, 2025, he reported on the work of the “police” to the occupation authorities in Kalanchak.

Bogan is involved in the abduction and torture of people in the Skadovsk district.

According to information in the occupation publications, Sergiy Bohan was still head of the occupation police in Kalanchak in December 2025. His wife, Yulia Bohan, works as deputy gauleiter of Nova Kakhovka.

The Center for Journalistic Investigations reports that Russian occupiers have turned the resort village of Khorly into their military base. They have seized local recreation centers, and a significant number of local residents have left the village. The occupiers do not allow people without local registration to enter Khorly.

As reported by Ukrinform, in the fall of 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated the right bank of the Kherson region, including Kherson. Part of the region, located on the left bank of the Dnipro River, is temporarily occupied by Russian troops. At the same time, Ukrainian units are holding their positions there.
