Air Defense Forces neutralize 587 UAVs and 34 cruise missiles used by Russia to attack Ukraine

As of 11:30, according to preliminary data, Air Defense Forces neutralized 621 Russian aerial targets: 587 unmanned aerial vehicles of various types and 34 Kh-101 and Iskander-K cruise missiles launched by Russia against Ukraine since the evening of December 22.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced this on Facebook.

“On the night of December 23 (from 18:00 on December 22), the enemy carried out a combined strike on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure facilities using strike UAVs and air- and ground-launched missiles,” the statement said.

Overall, radio-technical troops of the Air Force detected and tracked 673 aerial attack assets — 38 missiles and 635 UAVs of various types. Among them were:

  • 635 strike UAVs of the Shahed type and Gerbera (other types of unmanned aerial vehicles) launched from Kursk, Orel, Millerovo, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russian Federation), Chauda, Crimea (about 400 of them were Shaheds);
  • three Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles (launch areas: Ryazan region, Russian Federation);
  • 35 Kh-101 and Iskander-K cruise missiles (launch areas: Vologda region and Kursk region, Russian Federation).

The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

According to preliminary data, as of 11:30, air defense forces shot down or suppressed 621 aerial targets:

  • 587 enemy Shahed- and Gerbera-type UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles of other types);
  • 34 Kh-101 and Iskander-K cruise missiles.

Missile hits and 39 strike UAV impacts were recorded at 21 locations; debris from downed targets fell at eight locations. Additionally, three aeroballistic missiles failed to reach their intended targets (impact locations are being verified).

As reported by Ukrinform, due to the massive attack, Ukraine’s nuclear power plants reduced electricity generation, with power outages recorded in eight regions.
