Ukraine’s F-16 jets score over 1,600 air and ground hits against Russian forces

F-16 fighters in Ukraine have intercepted more than 1,300 aerial targets and struck over 300 ground targets.

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Telegram, Ukrinform writes.

According to the report, F-16s appeared in Ukrainian skies in August 2024, marking a historic moment for Ukraine — a major breakthrough in strengthening the Air Force’s aviation capabilities. Quickly mastering the new aircraft, Ukrainian pilots have made it an effective tool in countering the aggressor.

By implementing innovative approaches to air and anti-air combat, Ukrainian crews have demonstrated consistently high results in repelling Russian attacks. F-16s alone have intercepted more than 1,300 aerial targets. In particular, during the Russian strike on November 19, F-16 and Mirage-2000 pilots intercepted and shot down at least 10 enemy cruise missiles.

In addition to air-defense missions, these aircraft are actively used for close air support. F-16 pilots have struck over 300 ground targets, destroying hundreds of units of Russian equipment, command posts, UAV control points, ammunition depots, and enemy logistics.

F-16 pilots and ground aviation personnel operate daily in extremely challenging and high-risk conditions. Currently, their primary concern is the uninterrupted and timely supply of munitions from Western partners. Without sufficient bombs and missiles, F-16s alone cannot secure victory over the enemy, the Air Force emphasized.

As Ukrinform reported, Ukraine’s air-defense forces have neutralized 442 drones, 34 Kh-101 cruise missiles, and seven Kalibr missiles launched by Russia starting at 18:00 on Tuesday, November 18.
