No active Russian offensive in island zone of left-bank Kherson region — Voloshyn
Currently, Russian forces are not making active attempts to seize the island zone on the left bank of the Kherson region, although they have not entirely abandoned their plans to bring it under control.
Colonel Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, stated this during a television broadcast while answering a question about the situation in the Kherson region and the islands, Ukrinform reports.
According to him, the enemy has regrouped its assault units and assets and, where possible, rotated its observers stationed on the islands.
“Indeed, they have concentrated a certain number of assault groups near Oleshky to continue what could be described as reconnaissance and strike operations around the Antonivski Islands — we have such information. In addition, the enemy is attempting to improve the engineering and fortification of its current positions. In other words, on the left bank, they are no longer primarily focused on taking control of the island zone, although they have not given up on this objective,” Voloshyn said.
The spokesperson explained that the enemy continues to send small groups to reinforce its positions.
“Still, their main focus is to hold their ground and prevent the Defense Forces of Ukraine from carrying out more active and effective operations,” he added.
Answering another question, Voloshyn reported that over the past week, more than ten assault actions had been recorded in this sector, several of which involved landing attempts.
“For example, over the past day, there were several recorded attempts to land on Velykyi Vilkhovyi Island. The enemy continues its activity and keeps trying to land on one or another of the islands — including in the southern area, such as Zabych Island, Velykyi Vilkhovyi, and others — as well as conducting assault operations near the Antonivski Bridges,” the spokesperson noted.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, five people were injured in the Kherson region as a result of shelling by Russian forces.
