This was announced on Telegram by Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration Oleh Hryhorov, according to Ukrinform.
“The enemy drone hit the cathedral — a symbol of the city in the center of Sumy,” Hryhorov stated.
According to him, the strike caused damage to the building. Information about casualties is being clarified.
All necessary services are working at the scene, and the area is being inspected.
The head of the administration noted that the Holy Resurrection Cathedral of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine is the oldest stone building in Sumy and a nationally significant architectural monument.
“An attack on such a shrine is yet another example of Russia’s cynical crimes against civilians and our cultural heritage,” the official emphasized.
In a subsequent post, Hryhorov confirmed that no one was injured as a result of the strike on the cathedral in central Sumy. As of 11:00, no workers, visitors, or passersby had sought medical help.
