Russian airstrike on penal colony in Zaporizhzhia region: 16 killed, over 90 injured

The number of those injured and hospitalized following the Russian airstrike on the Bilenke Correctional Colony has risen to 44, while 16 convicts have been confirmed dead.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Justice reported this on its official Facebook page, according to Ukrinform.

“The strike resulted in the deaths of 16 convicts, while 44 others were injured and hospitalized. More than 50 additional victims received medical treatment at the scene,” the statement said.

As earlier reported by Ukrinform, at approximately 23:30 on Monday, July 28, Russian forces launched an airstrike on the Bilenke Correctional Colony in the Zaporizhzhia region, deploying four guided aerial bombs. The attack resulted in the complete destruction of the facility’s canteen, while the administrative headquarters and quarantine area sustained partial damage. Initial reports indicated 17 fatalities and 42 wounded.
