Nayev: Russians daily fire long-range artillery, mortars in Sumy direction

Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev, the Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has stated that the Russian army fires long-range artillery and mortars in Sumy direction every day.

As the Command of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine posted on Telegram, Nayev visited settlements near the Russian border in Sumy region and talked with local residents who suffer from shelling every day.

The purpose of the commander's working trip was to familiarize himself with the living conditions of the local population and to examine the conditions of service and performance of combat missions by units to strengthen the protection of civilian and critical infrastructure objects in Sumy region, which has the longest border with Russia – 564 km.

"In Sumy direction, the enemy fires long-range artillery and mortars every day. However, Ukrainian soldiers have a clear task to respond adequately and, if necessary, to act proactively," Nayev said.

According to him, the soldiers who defend this direction are highly motivated, know their combat task, and successfully perform it.

"For greater protection of the civilian population, we work together with the regional military administration and do everything possible to ensure that every resident of Sumy region is confident in the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the commander emphasized.

During the meeting with unit commanders, the Lieutenant General outlined a set of specific measures aimed at ensuring the defense capability of the territory and immediate response to enemy fire.
