Klitschko: Rescuer injured in drone attack on Kyiv

A rescuer was injured during a drone attack on Kyiv last night. He was crushed by a concrete slab during a rescue operation at one of the facilities.

"They decided to spoil our City Day. But our air defense forces destroyed about 40 drones near the capital and in the airspace of Kyiv. And in general, as you know, 54 drones were launched on Ukraine, 52 of which were shot down by our air defense forces. That is, the main part of Shahed drones targeted specifically the capital. Falling fragments caused destruction in several districts of Kyiv. One person – a 41-year-old man – was killed. Two people were hospitalized: 35-year-old woman who is in an intensive care unit now, and a rescuer who was crushed by a concrete slab during a rescue operation at one of the facilities. I hope the doctors will quickly set him on his feet and he will continue performing his duties," Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said during the United News telethon, the Kyiv City State Administration reports.

He also stated that the city is constantly improving its air defense system and air raid alerts.

"We adopt the best world experience. We install an alert system that can work even during power outages. Because people's safety is important to us. We also strengthen the defense of the capital, in particular the air defense. Our foreign partners help us a lot with this. And we are very grateful to them for that," the mayor said.
