Ukraine needs fourth-generation fighter jets for air superiority over enemy - Ihnat

To gain air superiority over the enemy, Ukrainian defenders need modern, fourth-generation Western fighter jets.

Yurii Ihnat, spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force Command, said this on national television, Ukrinform reports.

"In order to gain air superiority over the enemy and carry out powerful strikes against its ground targets, today Ukraine needs multi-purpose, modern, fourth-generation Western aircraft such as the F-16," he said.

Assessing the readiness of partner countries, in particular Poland, to hand over Soviet MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine, he said that such an initiative certainly deserves gratitude.

"To some extent, this will increase our combat capabilities. After all, these is exactly the type of aircraft that make their flights every day and because of that, of course, they are constantly worn out. But one should not forget that these are still Soviet and not modern Western aircraft. Therefore, in a global sense, thanks to them, it is unlikely that something will change radically on the front lines," Ihnat said.
