Germany transfers nine armored bridgelayers to Ukraine

Germany has transferred nine Biber armored bridgelayers, which are based on the Leopard 1 tank chassis, to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ukraine said this in a Facebook post, Ukrinform reports.

"Germany provides comprehensive support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Biber (Beaver) armored bridgelayer is an engineering combat vehicle, with the help of which combat units overcome rivers, anti-tank ditches and other obstacles. Nine such vehicles have already been handed over to the Ukrainian military," the report says.

Biber can deploy and retract a 22-meter bridge consisting of two eleven-meter elements in a matter of minutes. Biber is based on the Leopard 1 tank chassis. It is equipped with a bridge laying system instead of the turret.

Unlike many similar engineering machines, the Biber lays its bridge horizontally, leaving the machine’s contours small and unnoticeable. Due to modern technology, this machine can be operated by only two crew members.
