Intelligence expects active hostilities in eastern Ukraine within next two months

Active hostilities are expected to last in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions within the next two months.

The relevant statement was made by Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate at the Ukrainian Defense Ministry Vadym Skibitskyi in an interview with Ukrinform, commenting on Putin’s order to seize the Donetsk and Luhansk regions before March 2023.

“Indeed, in February-March, active hostilities will be underway, namely in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions,” Skibitskyi said, noting that Russia’s chief of general staff and the newly appointed commander of Russian forces in Ukraine, Valery Gerasimov, failed to complete the task set before him, namely to seize the Donetsk and Luhansk regions completely.

According to the Ukrainian intelligence, the 2nd Mechanized Division of the 1st Tank Army is being redeployed from Belarus. Thus, a new attempt by Russian invaders to cross Ukraine’s state border in the Kupiansk direction cannot be ruled out.
