U.S. planning to send Patriot missile defense system to Ukraine - CNN

U.S. President Joe Biden's administration is finalizing plans to send the Patriot missile defense system to Ukraine.

This was reported by CNN with reference to U.S.officials, according to Ukrinform.

“The Pentagon’s plan still needs to be approved by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin before it is sent to President Joe Biden for his signature,” the report says.

It is noted that once the plans are finalized, the Patriot systems are expected to ship quickly in the coming days. However, it is not clear how many missile launchers will be sent.

A typical Patriot battery includes a radar set that detects and tracks targets, computers, power generating equipment, an engagement control station and up to eight launchers, each holding four ready to fire missiles.

Unlike smaller air defense systems, Patriot missile batteries need much larger crews, requiring dozens of personnel to properly operate them. The training for Patriot missile batteries normally takes several months.
