Ambassador Makeiev: We need tanks, other heavy weapons from Germany

Ukraine expects to receive power generators and weapons from Germany before winter.

Ukraine's Ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, told this to Germany's ZDF television channel, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"We really need Germany's support... Now we need generators and transformers, they especially suffer from Russian missile strikes," the ambassador said.

At the same time, he noted that, first and foremost, it is necessary to overcome the causes of such a situation - namely, to make missile attacks impossible. For this, Ukraine needs air defense systems, weapons and ammunition, he said.

"We need weapons, because German weapons save lives," Makeiev said. He praised an IRIS-T air defense system that was earlier delivered to Ukraine and has already helped intercept a number of Russian missiles and thus prevent many deaths and destruction.

However, Ukraine also needs tanks and other heavy weapons in order to win this war, the diplomat said. He added that the Ukrainian side is in a "trust-based dialogue" with German friends on this issue.

When asked what Ukrainians mean by "victory," Makeiev said that this concerns the return of all territories captured by Russia, with 15% of the country's territory, including Crimea, currently remaining under temporary occupation.

Makeiev rejected the allegation that Ukrainians do not want to negotiate with Moscow. It is Russia that does not want to sit down at the negotiating table, and it is demonstrated by its behavior, he said.

Ukrainians are a "very fighting nation" that has now united even more and realizes that it must "win" this winter, the ambassador said.
