Stoltenberg warns Russia against lying about ‘dirty bomb’ in Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned Russia against escalation based on false claims that Ukraine is going to use a ‘dirty bomb’ on its territory.

“Russia now falsely claims Ukraine is preparing to use a radiological ‘dirty bomb’ on its own territory. NATO Allies reject this transparently false allegation. Russia often accuses others of what they intend to do themselves. We have seen this pattern before. From Syria to Ukraine. Russia must not use false pretexts for further escalation. The world is watching closely,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on board the US Navy Aircraft Carrier USS George H.W. Bush.

NATO chief noted that Russia's brutal war against Ukraine was at a pivotal moment now. President Putin is responding to his failures on the battlefield with more aggression, strikes on civilians and civilian energy infrastructure, drone and missile attacks on residential areas.

Stoltenberg added that it became obvious in recent days that Iran provided military support to the Russian war effort against Ukraine. NATO Secretary General called this situation “unacceptable.”

“No country should be helping the aggressor in an illegal war. So I welcome that Allies and the European Union are implementing strong sanctions on Tehran,” Stoltenberg said.

He once again stressed that NATO was not a party to the war in Ukraine but it would continue to support Ukraine’s fundamental right to self-defence “for as long as it takes.”

As reported, the foreign ministers of the USA, France, and the UK issued a joint statement, condemning Russia's false allegations that Ukraine was ready to use a "dirty bomb" on its territory and confirming steadfast support for Ukraine.
