HRMMU calls on ‘LPR/DPR’ to provide access to Ukrainian prisoners of war

Matilda Bogner, Head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU), called on the representatives of the so-called "LPR/DPR" to provide access to the places of detention of Ukrainian prisoners of war but has received no answer so far.

"Two days ago, I spoke with representatives of the armed groups of the Russian Federation in Donetsk and Luhansk, asking to gain access [to the places of detention of Ukrainian prisoners of war]. They said they would consider my request, but we haven't got the access yet," Bogner said at a press conference at the Media Center Ukraine-Ukrinform.

Moreover, the Mission's monitors also do not have access to prisoners of war held in the Russian Federation.

"It was difficult for us to conduct a dialogue with the Russian Federation on this issue. We will continue to try to gain access," Bogner said.

As reported, at the presentation of the new UN Human Rights report on Wednesday, June 29, Bogner stated that the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission did not have specific information about the fate of the Azovstal defenders. The Russian side did not let the Mission's monitors visit any place of internment of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
