Next stage of evacuation from Azovstal underway

The operation to evacuate people from the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol resumed on Friday, May 6.

This was reported on Telegram by Head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak, Ukrinform reports.

"At the moment, the next stage of the effort to rescue our people from Azovstal is underway. The update on the results will follow," he wrote.

As reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday that about 150 people had been evacuated from Azovstal and more than 300 – from Mariupol and the surrounding area throughout the week.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that a total of about 500 people have been evacuated from Mariupol in a United Nations “Safe Passage” operation.
