Defensive operation ongoing near Huliaypole, Orikhove in Zaporizhzhia region

A defensive operation is ongoing near Huliaypole and Orikhove in Zaporizhzhia region. The populated localities of Polohy, Vasylivka, and Tokmak are now temporarily occupied.

"On the 11th day, strong resistance to the Russian invasion in the Zaporizhzhia region continue. Currently, Ukraine’s Armed Forces personnel conducting a defensive operation near the populated localities of Huliaypole, Orikhove and Vasylivka-Balabyne. Polohy, Vasylivka, and Tokmak are now temporarily occupied,” Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration Oleksandr Starukh posted on Telegram on March 6.

On February 24, Russian president Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops are shelling and destroying key infrastructure, conducting massive shelling of Ukrainian towns and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launcher systems, and ballistic missiles.

Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.

Ukraine officially filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation at the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague. International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan launched an investigation into the situation in Ukraine.
