17 killed in enemy shelling in Chernihiv region over past day

Over the past 24 hours, Russian aircraft have been systematically bombing Chernihiv. The shelling killed 17 people and injured 13 more.

"During March 4 and on the night of March 5, Russian aircraft systematically bombed Chernihiv, mostly residential areas. According to the latest information of health care institutions, 17 people were killed, 13 more were injured as a result of the shelling over past day," the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration posted on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

According to the Chernihiv region department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, 29 fires – 22 in residential sector, and 7 on facilities – broke out over the past 24 hours. Four people were rescued during the fires, one person was injured and another one died.

Besides, according to JSC Chernihivoblenergo, about 200 populated localities of the region remain without electricity supply due to hostilities.

On February 24, Russian president Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine and launched a large-scale invasion.

Russian troops are killing civilians, shelling and destroying key infrastructure facilities, and missiles hit Ukrainians' homes.

Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced. The Armed Forces of Ukraine, with the support of the entire nation, courageously resist Russian aggression.
