IAEA: Agency in contact with Ukrainian authorities about situation at Zaporizhzhia NPP

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been informed about the shelling of the Zaporizhzhia NPP by the Russian forces and is now in direct contact with the Ukrainian authorities.

The relevant report was posted on the IAEA account on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.

“IAEA is aware of reports of shelling at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), in contact with Ukrainian authorities about situation,” the report says.

Another report from the agency says that IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi speaks with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and the leadership of the Ukrainian nuclear regulator and nuclear power plant operator.

As reported, Zaporizhzhia NPP declared nuclear threat due to being shelled by Russia’s heavy weapons.

On the first day of a large-scale invasion of Ukraine, February 24, Russian troops seized the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.
