Ukraine urges to block roaming services for Russian providers within EU

Ukraine asks the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) to block roaming services for Russian providers within EU countries

Oleksandr Zhyvotovskyi, Chairman of the National Commission for the State Regulation of Electronic Communications, Radio Frequency Spectrum and the Provision of Postal Services of Ukraine, appealed to BEREC Chair Annemarie Sipkes with a request to block roaming services for Russian telecom service providers within the European Union.

The letter was released on Telegram channel of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine.

“For the purposes of protecting Ukraine, Europe and the entire democratic world and holding Russia accountable, I am urging you as the BEREC Leadership, together with the National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) of the EU Member States, to take actions aimed at blocking Russian roamers and roaming services for Russian telecom service providers within the European Union,” Zhyvotovskyi stated.

As he stressed, Ukraine is a European country and war in Ukraine means war in Europe. “Our country fights for European values and freedoms and for all Europeans, but we need strong support and active actions of the EU and our partners,” Zhyvotovskyi added.
