No mandatory testing of foreign language for high school graduates - ministry of education

Taking into account numerous requests by citizens, the ministry of education has changed the form for testing knowledge of a foreign language demonstrated by high school graduates for next year and the time for administering the Outer Independent Testing (ZNO).

Director of the Department of Secondary and Elementary Education Yuri Kononenko told Ukrinform .

"Ukrainian language, history or mathematics will be mandatory for testing in the form of ZNO, while a foreign language will also be mandatory, but it would not be in the form of the ZNO testing, but it will be administered as a usual state final testing. As it has been always administered, but for all," the official said.

According to him, the change in the form of administering testing of foreign languages came about through numerous appeals of the students’ parents and and public organizations.

Kononenko also said that the time for administering the ZNO tests for high school graduates has also been adjusted.

"ZNO testing will start on May 5, it is shifted in time due to the fact that the processing results of the Ukrainian language takes a long time," he said, adding that the corresponding decree was published on the website of the ministry of education.
