Ukraine will join the EU and NATO – Poroshenko

Ukrinform
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is firmly convinced that Ukraine will become a member of the European Union and NATO, although he admits that this will happen in the longer term.

The Head of State wrote about this in the article for the joint project of the Novoye Vremia and The Economist.

"Membership in the European Union, as well as joining NATO, certainly remains our strategic goal. Since this prospect is clearly not for 2018, and it is not up to us, as the Scripture says, to know the times and terms, I can only say that I firmly believe that this will happen," Poroshenko wrote.

In his opinion, 2017 year, unlike the previous one, will remain in our history with positive results, one of which is the introduction of visa-free travel for Ukrainian citizens to the EU countries. And the Association Agreement is a road map for further fundamental changes that will bring Ukraine closer to the Copenhagen criteria for membership in the prestigious union of the world, the President added.
