KYIV, September 13 /Ukrinform/. Families of the Ukrainian climbers killed in Pakistan sent a letter to the Pakistan authorities for payment of compensation in the amount of USD 300,000 for each case of the tragic death.

Ukrinform learned this from the Federation of Climbing in Kharkiv region on Friday.

"We provide time to the Pakistani side to consider the demand, then we will have to appeal to the courts and the international community. We also expect support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine," the organization said.

The letter was sent to the President of Pakistan, the Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, and the Prosecutor General of Pakistan.

Lawyer Stanislav Batrin, who represents the interests of the climbers' relatives, said that the indicated amount of compensation is adequate, based on the practice of international law for the payment of such compensation.

As Ukrinform reported, in the early hours of Sunday, June 23, a group of tourists was shot dead in the area of Mount Nanga Parbat in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. There were three Ukrainians among them. Responsibility for the attack has been taken by the Pakistani Taliban movement Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

However, Islamabad does not consider itself guilty of the tragedy. In this regard, Pakistan in correspondence with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine refused to pay moral damages to the families of the Ukrainian climbers.
