The strengthening of sanctions against Russia is a logical continuation of Canada’s coherent policy on the non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea.

In an interview with Ukrinform, Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, Andriy Shevchenko said: “The tightening of sanctions is a logical continuation of Canada's policy regarding the non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea and support for Ukraine”.

According to him, it is very important that Canada calls on other development countries to be solidary on this issue and together counteract Russia’s aggression.

He stressed that "Canada's position on the unity among the countries of the free world to put pressure on Russia is just as important for us as today's decision [on extending the sanctions list]".

The Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada also thanked Canada for its consistent support for Ukraine.

On Monday, November 29, Canada imposed sanctions on 15 individuals, including six members of Russia’s Duma living in Crimea.
