Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations, has said that the situation with moving forward the procedure to give Ukraine a visa-free regime should be successful, as it was with Georgia.

"I would say that the Ukraine situation should be the same as in the case of Georgia. They have fulfilled all the conditions, and I have not heard of any problems from either by EU Member States or from MEPs," the commissioner said.

According to him, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Member States of the European Union has decided to give the "green light" the European Council to launch negotiations with the European Parliament on liberalizing the visa regime for citizens of Georgia.

On October 5, the Council expressed its support for providing a visa-free regime for citizens of Georgia, in view of the reforms the country has conducted. Peter Javorcik, Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the EU, Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the EU, said that the reforms in Georgia are credible and such efforts should be encouraged.
