Ukrainian parliament calls for international community to unite efforts to release journalists Sushchenko and Semena
Some 245 MPs voted in favor of corresponding resolution, No.52/20, at a parliamentary sitting today, October 5, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
According to the statement, the Verkhovna Rada calls on parliamentary of the EU member state, the U.S., Canada, and Japan, the European Parliament, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatović to consolidate efforts in releasing Ukrainian journalists Roman Sushchenko and Mykola Semena.
“Only by joint actions of Ukraine and the international community, we can stop gross human rights violations that unfortunately have become a regular practice in the Russian Federation,” reads the statement.
The Verkhovna Rada calls for the international community to condemn Russia’s actions that violate human rights, and assist in providing Ukrainian consular officials and the lawyer with the immediate access to Roman Sushchenko, who is currently being kept in a Moscow prison.
