UN says situation in Donbas deteriorating

The distance between the Ukrainian servicemen and militants in Donbas has been reduced several times, and the overall situation in eastern Ukraine has deteriorated.

This is stated in the UN report.

"The distance between the adversaries in Stanytsia Luhanska [Luhansk region] and Zaitseve [Donetsk region] has been reduced to 300 and 500 meters respectively. Earlier it was 1.5-2 km," the report says.

UN experts write that the situation is deteriorating as the parties to the conflict are trying to win back the territories of the buffer zone, therefore, approaching each other in last two weeks.

The report also says that the number of civilian casualties in the region has increased significantly. A record number of victims since August 2015 was recorded in June. There are people among the victims who were killed or wounded with the weapons prohibited by the Minsk agreements.
