Germany and France are developing a norm on the suspension of a visa-free regime for Georgia, Ukraine and Kosovo, Germany’s Die Welt newspaper reports.

“Germany and France are developing the norm under which certain countries of the European Union will be able to suspend a visa-free regime,” reads the report.

According to the newspaper, the countries are concerned about the introduction of a visa-free regime for Georgia, Ukraine and Kosovo, fearing higher crime rate.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere at a Parliament’s sitting last week provided explanations why the number of burglaries climbed over the past months, Die Welt reports. Speaking to MPs behind closed doors, the minister said that those burglaries are mostly committed by international traveling gangs, taking special note on those coming from Georgia.

Earlier the EU suspended a decision on the abolition of a visa-free regime for Georgia.
