Germany's Steinmeier hopes for some progress in Normandy format talks

Ukrinform
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier hopes that at least a little progress in the issue of holding elections in Donbas will be made during today’s meeting of foreign ministers of the Normandy format countries in Berlin.

As Ukrinform’s own correspondent in Germany reports, Steinmeier said this before his meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Herault, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"I hope that we will be able to move forward and get closer to reaching an agreement on the procedure – law on local elections, preparations for elections, including how to ensure security during these elections," the German Foreign Minister said.

Steinmeier also noted that Germany and France had made many mediation efforts to solve the Ukrainian conflict and to implement the Minsk agreements. He expressed confidence that all the parties were interested in successful and efficient negotiations.
