Acting Deputy Head of Odesa Regional State Administration Oleksandr Borovyk has resigned.

He wrote this on his Facebook page.

“On May 1, the law on state service came into effect. The law prohibits state officials from holding any other citizenship apart from Ukrainian one. I’ve never hidden that I’m a citizen of the European Union,” he said.

Borovyk noted he regrets about this ban in the new law: “It seems to me that it would be in the interests of Ukraine, if Ukrainians from diaspora could help the country of their origin without any unnecessary bureaucratic barriers, especially, if they are our countrymen with good education and experience of living in the EU, where Ukraine is aspiring to”.
