PGO: Notice of suspicion served against Kasko in due form

"The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine filed a notice of suspicion for ex-Deputy Prosecutor General Vitaly Kasko in criminal offences under Part 4 of Article 190 and Part 4 of Article 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The notice was filed observing the rights of the suspect and taking into account the Kasko’s status of a lawyer," reads the statement.

As noted, Kasko is suspected of fraudulent acquiring of the right to property and use of a document known to be forged.

The notice of suspicion was read to Kasko by the investigators of the Prosecutor General’s Office near his car in the street late at night. Kasko and his lawyers did not consider the incident to be filing a notice of suspicion. Kasko argues he was entered into the registry of lawyers on February 16, so only the deputy prosecutor general can read the notice of suspicion for him, according to the Ukraine’s Code of Criminal Procedure.

Kasko resigned as a deputy prosecutor general in February, saying that Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin had transformed the prosecutorial system into a corrupt “dead body” that “creates and tolerates total lawlessness,” as well as making it “a tool of political intimidation and profiteering.”
