Linkevicius tells about priorities of EU policy in resisting Russia’s aggression

The European Union has three strategic priorities in resisting Russia’s aggression and assisting Ukraine.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius said at an international conference entitled “Implementation of the Minsk Agreements and consequences of sanctions against Russia” in Brussels on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent in Brussels reports.

“In my opinion, there are three main principles of the acting strategy. First, these are the Minsk Agreements. They are not perfect, but there is no other alternative to them. Secondly, there are sanctions. We will not ease them, but we can extend them. At the end of the year we need to be united around the European Union regarding this, as well as in the partnership with the U.S. and Canada. Thirdly, this is the support of Ukraine,” the Lithuanian Foreign Minister said.

He noted that Ukraine from the beginning of 2016 would need invariable support from the European side, as trade sanctions from Russia would be implemented and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area would come into effect.
