Khatia Dekanoidze nominated national police chief

The Cabinet of Ministers appointed the adviser to the minister of Internal Affairs Khatia Dekanoidze the chief of national police.

This resolution was adopted at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Ukrinform reports.

The newly appointed chief of national police has stated her first step in a new post to solve the issue of re-certification of current police officers to new national police.

"Certification is a first step. We will begin concrete steps very soon. We are working on tests, concept. I can assure you that the contest-certification will be transparent and honest - this is the most important factor," she said.

In addition, under her leadership, the agency will also focus on an ongoing establishment of new patrol police in 29 cities of Ukraine.

The government portal website points out that PM Yatsenyuk highlighted that this decision is "one of the fateful for the future of the new Ukrainian police."
