US Ambassador: Ukraine needs transparent system of verifying e-declarations
U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch said this at the public forum on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"I suggest three steps, which are already on the agenda. First, to create a transparent system of independent verification of property declarations," Yovanovitch said.
The second step, according to the diplomat, it provision of more resources to the independent anti-corruption bodies. In this context, she drew attention to the need to endow the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine with the right to telephone tapping.
The third point, as noted by the Ambassador, is establishment of an anti-corruption court, which would deliver legal and fair judgments in the cases which are investigated by SAPO and NABU.
"This is a fairly difficult task. However, given Ukraine faces pervasive corruption, it should give a systemic response. I know that Ukraine will win this fight," the Ambassador said.
