IMF concerned over Abromavichus statements on resignation - Lagarde

International Monetary Fund Chief Christine Lagarde has expressed concerns over the sudden intentions of Ukrainian Economic Ministry Aivaras Abromavichus to resign form this post.

“Mr. Abromavicius on the position of economy minister of Ukraine carried out a range of efficient and fundamental reforms to ensure attractiveness for direct investments to Ukraine, to make the improvements as much as he could, and I would like to a pay tribute to his efforts,” Lagarde said at an online news conference in Washington on Thursday, an own Ukrinform correspondent reports.

At the same time, according to the IMF chief “his recent announcement on resignation raises concerns”.

Lagarde praised efforts by the Ukrainian government, in particular, on the stabilization of fiscal situation to prevent state funds embezzlement, and the price control in the energy sector. At the same time, she stressed that as to corruption, “much is still to be done”.
