Renovated Zhytomyr city airport resumes operation after 25-year pause

On January 29, at 13.30, the first technical flight of Saab 340 aircraft landed at Zhytomyr-Smokivka renovated airport, 100 kilometers west of Kyiv.

"Journalists, region’s governor Serhiy Mashkovsky and the city Zhytomyr mayor Serhiy Sukhomlyn came to have a look at the launch of the renovated airport," a statement said.

Earlier, mayor Serhiy Sukhomlyn said that the first plane would be a passenger empty plane.

Recall that Ukrainian Yanair airline acted as investor in the reconstruction of the airport. This airport has not actually operated for the last 25 years.
