Government declares state of emergency in energy sector

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has declared the state of emergency in the energy sector of Ukraine, which will last till January 15, 2016.

This is stated in the government’s order dated December 9, 2015, published on the government portal on December 14. The order comes into force on the day following the day of its publication and is valid for a month.

It is noted that the act was adopted at the proposal of the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry of Ukraine "in order to overcome the effects of prolonged disruptions in the electricity market following the accidents in the united energy system of Ukraine, caused by damage to electric power plants and their components, structures, and in order to ensure reliable, smooth (stable) operation of the united energy system of Ukraine."
