KYIV, January 11 /UKRINFORM/. Prime Minister Mykola Azarov introduced new head Ihor Sorkin to the NBU personnel. The Head of government wished the NBU governor to continue traditions, laid down by his predecessor Serhiy Arbuzov in his work on the new post.

The NBU correspondent reports about this.

“When Serhiy Hennadiyovych /Arbuzov - Ed./ worked at the post of the National Bank governor, it was a period of fruitful cooperation and interaction of the National Bank and the government. All those most complex tasks that emerged were solved jointly and in coordination. I would like to wish to Ihor Viacheslavovych that such a style of work, such cooperation and understanding of national problems and tasks were preserved,” Azarov has said.

He called on the new governor of the National Bank to actively inform the public about important decisions, which are approved at the country's financial institution. “I would like to wish you that your work at the NBU governor position were combined with well thought-out information campaign of our steps and actions, so that our people were confident in the correctness and the balanced policy, pursued by the National Bank and the government,” the Prime Minister said.

The Head of government stressed that well organized information campaign of the National Bank will help avoiding panic among the population, which is provoked by irresponsible politicians and experts and which weakens the national currency.

“Until coordinated work of the President, the government, the National Bank and the majority in the Verkhovna Rada exists in the state, there will be no shocks in Ukraine - this is the axiom. Shocks emerge when there is no unity with the political leaders of the country, when the economic and financial policies are differently directed,” Azarov said.

In turn, NBU governor Ihor Sorkin thanked for trust and assured that he will pay maximum attention to ensuring the hryvnia rate stability. “I consider reduction of interest rates for credits as my first priority task, so that crediting and the economy developed. The top-priority task is also attraction of the banking system into those transformations that take place in our country,” the NBU's new governor noted.
