The Security Service of Ukraine claims that 16 Ukrainian citizens have been freed from militant captivity in 2016.

Advisor to the Chief of the Security Service of Ukraine Yuri Tandyt said this in a commentary to Radio Liberty.

"A significant number of Ukrainian captives was freed in 2014 and in 2015. Sixteen people have been released so far this year. The reason: liberation of captives has become a politicized topic," he said.

According to Tandyt, the Ukrainian side expects the release of 48 Ukrainian hostages, as agreed on during the talks in Minsk.
