OSCE not planning to arm its monitoring mission in Ukraine

The leadership of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) sees no need in giving weapons to members of the Special Monitoring Mission in Donbas, eastern Ukraine.
OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier said on DW's Conflict Zone.
According to the OSCE head, the monitoring mission deal with militants that are armed with modern weapons, and thus the monitors could hardly protect themselves even if they had weapons.
Zannier stressed that his people are equipped with technical means, in particular, they have the opportunity to receive satellite images, and they have drones.
In addition, Zannier noted that "It is difficult for the international community - and this is not only the OSCE - to stop a conflict of this magnitude”.
