General Staff: Losses of Armed Forces total 2673 servicemen, almost third of them non-combat fatalities

The total losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the whole period of the ATO, including annexation of Crimea amount to 2,673 servicemen, including non-combat losses of 831 soldiers.

Chief of staff of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Ihor Voronchenko told a briefing in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.

"Today, the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the whole period ATO, including annexation of Crimea, are the following: 1,842 servicemen were killed in action, while non-combat fatalities reached 831 servicemen," he noted.

In addition, 8,519 servicemen were wounded, including 5,913 soldiers who were wounded in combats.

The General also denied any reports that leaders from the General Staff and the Defense Ministry allegedly underreport military losses. "Counting of the military personnel is a very serious business and a very responsible task. Every serviceman is listed in our rolls and irresponsible deregistration of serviceman from personnel rolls can be punished according to administrative and criminal laws," he said.

"We cannot give false testimony about our military losses," he said.
