Arrest warrants were issued for a total of 18 policemen from Berkut Kyiv special unit who participated in the February 20 shooting of Maidan protesters in Instytutska Street.

Some of them are staying abroad, and the rest fled to Crimea and the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Head of the SBU protection of national statehood  department Anatoliy Dublyk told a press conference, Ukrinform reports.

"Two of them are living in Poland, one fled to Belarus, five - to Crimea, seven to “DPR "and "LPR", all the others fled to Russia," he said.

According to the official, Poland does not extradite two Berkut policemen since Interpol has refused to declare them wanted internationally.

He also said that four police officers of the so-called "Berkut black unit" are in prison, and the cases of two of them - Abroskin and  Zinchenko - are tried in Kyiv Svyatoshynsky district court.

As a reminder, Berkut police officers led by Dmytro Sadovnyk are believed by law enforcement officers to carry out the shooting deaths of 39 protesters in Instytutska Street on February 20, 2014.
