39 judicial officials tried for corruption - PGO

"A total of 35 criminal cases are heard in courts now concerning 39 judges who are charged with committing corruption crimes," a statement said.
This year, the prosecutor's office has sent to courts seven verdicts in the criminal cases on corruption committed by judges.
In addition, according to the PGO, the investigative departments are conducting pre-trial investigations in 13 criminal cases against 12 judges, four of them are suspects charged with corruption criminal offenses related to obtaining illegal paybacks.
In particular, Chief Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office continues investigation in the criminal cases on charges of extortion allegedly committed by the judges of the Supreme Economic Court of Ukraine with a bribe worth 500,000 British pounds for intervening in activities of judges from the Economic Court of Kyiv city and the Kyiv Economic Court of Appeals and the fact of receipt by the Kiev City Appeals Court of illegal payback of $800,000 for making knowingly illegal resolutions in the interest of members of a Serhiy Kurchenko criminal organization, the PGO reports.
