Ukrinform
From April 30 to May 3 a total of 47 people lost their lives due to accidents on the roads of Ukraine, another 566 people were injured, the Police Office of Road Safety in Ukraine reports.
"Unfortunately, not all traffic participants abided by requests released by law-enforcement officers to be careful and cautious during Easter holidays. The result of thoughtlessness and overestimation of drivers’ capabilities were horrific accidents in most regions of Ukraine in the period of 30 April to 3 May. For nearly fifty people these holidays were the last and over 500 people ended up in hospital beds. These accidents might have been avoided if the drivers complied with traffic rules and remembered the responsibility they assume when operating vehicles," the traffic police report noted.
The main causes were speeding, failure to give way and violating rules on maneuvering of vehicles.
